Coach's Bio

 

Ken Shelton

Ken Shelton is the Head Speed Coach at Roller King Skate Center.  He has been coaching since 1970 after a competitive career in Speed, Team Dance, Figures, Singles and Rink Hockey.  He focused on teaching Speed and has coached dozens of National Speed Champions, Pan American Games Champions, US Olympic Sports Festival Champions and two World Champions.

Ken is ranked as an “Elite” coach by the National Organization for roller skating (USARS).  This title is awarded to a coach who has demonstrated excellence in their coaching career and worked to further the sport of roller skating.  Through many years of training skaters from beginner to the World Class level, as well as giving seminars to coaches, judges/officials, and athletes both in the United States as well as Internationally, USARS Board voted to reward him with this prestigious ranking. In 2017 Ken was indicted into the USARS Coaches Hall of Fame.

Ken was the primary author of the Sports Science section of the current USARS Coaches Certification program and holds Certificates from the United States Olympic Committee in Applied Exercise Physiology, Sports Biomechanics, and Sport Psychology.

Ken has also served as a past Chairman of the USARS Speed Technical Committee and is a member of the Southwest Pacific Regional Board of Directors for many years.
